WORKING TOGETHER

How It Works

Your journey with Gentle Living Psychotherapy begins with a free complimentary consultation call, to ensure we feel like a great fit. From there, you’ll be paired with a therapist based on your goals, your history and your personality. Together you’ll work to articulate your goals and begin working toward them right away.

Who You're Working With

Our practice is 2SLGBT+ safe, social justice aware, neurodivergent affirming and trauma informed. We recognize the negative impact that discrimination of all forms (subtle and overt) can have on a person’s health and wellness.

Each of our talented therapists bring education, experience and other modalities and styles to the table. While our styles and experience may differ, we all offer social justice aware, neurodivergent affirming, trauma informed care.

With multiple therapists to choose from, finding a good fit for you and your goals comes easily. Our clients benefit from our very supportive team who, when needed, can lend assistance and experience with many different needs and challenges.

How We Help

We offer several different approaches and modalities depending on what’s needed.  All of our counselling is social justice aware, neurodivergent affirming and trauma informed. All care plans are tailored to the specific individual, but these approaches will give a general idea of the way we like to work.

Transpersonal Psychotherapy

We work from a holistic perspective to support all aspects of client health and wellness. We’ll discuss physical health, emotional health, job satisfaction, relationships or parenting, cultural and community connection, spirituality or religion, etc. We are all whole and complex beings, and deserve to see ourselves as such.

When you are struggling with a chronic health condition, overwhelming stress or making healthy lifestyle choices, it can feel frustrating and discouraging to keep going.

We all know that making healthy choices will help us feel better. If just knowing what to do was enough, we would all be healthy, well-rested and perpetually happy. Unfortunately this just isn’t the case – lifestyle changes are hard and there are SO MANY systemic barriers to health that we often forget about, which leads to a lot of shame and self-judgement on top of already struggling with health issues. We will support you in identifying which changes are realistic for you to make, and to build a better understanding of your support needs, limits, and strengths.

We can help you take steps in a way that doesn’t overwhelm or leave you feeling judged.

Often when people think of trauma, they think of major events, like war, disaster or abuse. And definitely, those can be traumatic. However, trauma isn’t necessarily in the event itself, but in how the event has impacted our ability to cope and process. Trauma is complex, complicated, and nuanced.

If an event in your life has caused you pain, fear, or anger and doesn’t seem to be going away, it can be helpful to get support in processing it. Unlike a lot of therapists who have been trained in trauma, we are a practice that is also neurodivergent affirming – this means that we can help you identify which of your struggles are coming from trauma, which are related to your neurodivergence, and how to meet your needs in a way that supports your whole self.

Chronic stress, as well, can be overwhelming for a person, which can lead to intense emotions, difficulty feeling calm or safe, and tense relationships (both with ourselves and others). Stress/trauma therapy is not about what’s “wrong” with a person, it’s about what happened to them.

In depth therapy, we move past the surface issues to begin identifying and shifting the deeper emotions and wounds behind our behaviour and relationship patterns. We look at the small pieces that are connected to our patterns, identify why they’re there and what needs they’re meeting, and begin meeting those needs in ways that are more aligned with our values. These deep shifts are life-changing and transformational.

As we move busily through life, it’s not uncommon to find ourselves frustrated by the same feelings and issues over and over. These are often caused by deep rooted patterns that we’ve had all our lives.

We aim to provide a warm and supportive space to pause and reflect on those patterns with compassion by shedding light on what is there and helping you tap into your own innate wisdom.

You don’t have to do the work alone – we were never meant to heal in isolation. We would be honoured to support you in your journey.

We work with you to support your explorations of “self” – whether this is in the context of gender or sexuality exploration, discovering and exploring your own personal flavour of neurodivergence, or simply understanding yourself, your values, and your needs more deeply. We all deserve to show up and be celebrated as our own authentic and unique beings – and in our society, some of us have barriers to being able to do so. Your identity deserves to be celebrated – you are welcome here as YOU.
